Llanhilleth Miners Institute

Overview

Llanhilleth Miners Institute
Standing proud within the former mining village of Llanhilleth, this magnificent building is one of only a few remaining Institute’s still fulfilling many of it its original purposes. Today, Llanhilleth Miners Institute remains a lasting tribute to the miners, their vision, their dreams and ambitions.

The Institute was re-opened in 2008 as a Registered Charity and Social Enterprise with a similar ethos to its original purpose; to be the vibrant heart of the community, seeking to meet the changing needs of the people it serves, and reflect the vision of the miners who built it.

Today, community engagement and development remain our core purpose. We work in partnership with the community and a range of external organisations to develop and provide a range of opportunities, projects and services which aim to support the health and well-being of local people and the educational, cultural and recreational needs of our communities, spanning all age ranges and abilities.

As a Social Enterprise, we also host commercial activities and the income generated goes towards supporting our community activities, including our community café. We are also licensed to hold weddings and civil ceremonies and are a successful conference centre.
